Job Description

General

Ø      A Student Organization Advisor is a one year position from June 1st through May 31st of each year. 

Ø      Insure organizations are in compliance with Student Life policies and procedures.

Ø      Provide information and advisement on college, state or other policies procedures affecting organization activities.

Governance/Accountability

Ø      Assist with officer elections, ensuring compliance with bi-laws and other election procedures.

Ø      Ensure that required organization reporting is completed on a semi-annual basis.

Ø      Assist organization in the formation of by-laws and on-going compliance (monitor for violations and point out when necessary).

Ø      Financial responsibility for organization budget:

o       Advise and assist treasurer with fiscal duties: budget prep, periodic & year end reporting,

o       Legal signatory for expenditures along with organization president or designee.

o       Monitor organization expenses and actual budget

o       Is the approving authority for the expenditures of organizational funds

o       Insure all expenditures are in accordance with all current policies and procedures

Ø      Assist in the planning and attend officer transitional meeting at the end of each year.

Ø      Assist organization with storage and maintenance of materials and records.

Participation and Attendance

Ø      Attend organization meetings

Ø      Attend and participate in Executive committee meetings to plan meetings.

Ø      Fund Raising Activities

o       Advise and consult on planning activities

o       Assist in promotion and marketing

Ø      Attend any organization related activities or functions.

Ø      Attend organizational conferences (state, national);

Ø      There may be an expectation of summer activities, if the organization executive committee or conference schedules deems necessary.

Recruiting/Retaining Organization Membership

Assist organization in recruiting activities.

Leadership Training and Advisement

Ø      Promote professional development workshops in leadership and other beneficial topics accessing college, state and national level resources.

Ø      Promote the organization’s involvement in community service activities.
